It might not always be fun to have to repeat yourself over and over again. But social media are very important for start-ups.
It's all about online networking. In that aspect, Ana Mihail (thank you so much by the way) was very helpful. So I spent the morning going through different platforms, creating accounts for Binnovart. Here is a list of our favourites, and we believe, most useful ones:
- Facebook. Over a billion users, no doubt, your start-up needs a Facebook page. But be intelligent about it, engaged followers are important. So don't overload them with information, but, at the same time be present on their news feed. Make funny, engaging, interesting and personal posts, that's our advice. Don't be too serious, it's boring!
-LinkedIn. You are the serious freak kind of guy? It's the right place to be serious and connect with professionals. Although I have to say that they could clearly do something better. Not that easy nor convenient to use...
-Twitter: Well, hard to get followers, from our experience. But a little tweet is worth more than 140 characters!
-Angel List: Now we are getting serious here! Investors, incubators (some actually require an angel list account to apply!). It's very motivational at the beginning, but when it comes to sticking out of the huge number of start-ups, not that easy...
-F6s: We really liked that one. A lot of applications for incubators are done through that platform. Easy to use, quick, and most importantly necessary! Oh and be colourful and creative in your application forms for accelerators/incubators.
-Youtube? Yepp, you'll have to send videos of your team and project at some point. Again the word is: creativity, but staying humble and accessible.
So get out there with your project, co-founders, team and start-up! It's time to get social! And hope a billionaire finds you on the internet (by magic, like in space jam) and falls in love with your team and idea!
