Concluding a deal, getting an investment or an important partnership. You never know what might change the story of your company, and enable it to become the successful venture you always dreamed of.
The ability to deal in an appropriate way with the people and personalities you are going to meet is not only extremely important, but a very difficult art to manage.
The way you approach the meeting and your relationship with the person has to be different depending upon the situation that you are facing. It is always a good thing to list your strengths, what you bring (as a team and company) to the table, and, of course, what you need.
The best situation is always to be the one where you are bringing the most to the table. Because, then, you are first of all less stressed, and can therefore analyse everything from a different perspective. Just like in a chest match, it is the other person's turn to make a move. But it is important to remain humble, open to discussion and honest. You will always get the best out of a partnership and meeting if you come open minded.
Then, for the worse case: You are the one demanding something, you are the underdog. In this position, although it is the most complicated to manage, it is my favourite one. It is the one where you really face a challenge. It is a test, and the results depends only on you. So just like in race, treat it like it is your everything. Give it your best shot! Because the people who say they can't and those who say they can, are both usually right! So as a company, as a team, as a startup, next time you face one, just remember: if it's gonna happen, it's up to you!
